12 Sep 09 - Cove Youth 2 Grayshott 0 (Hampshire Cup)
Cove travelled to Grayshott for the first round of the Hampshire Cup. On a sloped pitch Cove got going with some good work from Luke Harris who was sharp, building and creating attacks. Teaming up well with Luke was Rob and Harvey who's runs down the wings proved very effective. The first oppourtunity presented was put in the back off the net. Lewis Gurr sending through Luke who side footed it past the keeper. Cove switched off at the back and Grayshott wasted a chance, hitting the crossbar from 6 yards out. Cove switched back on and with good work from Lewis Bernard, Lewis Gurr, Ben Harris, Rob Walters and Luke down the left hand side created more chances for Max Dawber who had a busy day upfront. Now there seemed to be a good positive atmosphere amongst the players and the team started to gel. Captain Kyle Whitehead and Ben Fowler put in some strong tackles at the back. At half time Cove had the edge. In the second half was when Cove played some lovely football, with Paul Hartnoll having a couple of chances from the centre midfield. James Stringer came on and took over the reins from Max working hard upfront and setting up a chance or two. Luke was involved in the second goal as well. A nice pass from James saw Luke again clean through. He rounded the goalie but was clipped by him on the way through, he lost his stride and the ref had no choice but to give a penalty. Harvey stepped up and as cool as you like sent it past the keeper. Todd had had a quiet day and only had to make a couple of saves. Cove clung on to victory and sailed through to the next round.

Man of the Match was Harvey Lamb for some excellent right hand side play. Next week we are at home to Rowledge.
5 Sep 09 - Cove Youth 1 Ascot United Spartans 1
On a lovely sunny day Cove's first fixture was against a new team to divison 2, Ascot Spartans. For the first twenty minutes it was deadlock, with Luke Harris coming very close to opening his account for the season. Some strong defending from Ben Fowler and captain Kyle Whitehead prevented Ascot from putting one in the back of the net. It would be a corner that would be Cove's downfall. With some poor marking a man broke free and put the ball past Todd Breese. From then on it was all Cove. With opportunities being missed all over the place and an unlucky break for Max Dawber made it seem that Cove would never score, and at half time Ascot still had an advantage. Only a few minutes into the second half Cove pulled level through Luke Harris after some good passing between Paul Hartnoll, James Stringer and Harvey Lamb. Kyle Whitehead, Ben Fowler, Lewis Bernard and Ben Harris gave Ascot no chances of getting back in the lead. Rob Walters had a good chance but it missed by a whisker. Some good work in the middle of the park from Lewis Gurr and some brilliant passes from him set up many more chances but it seemed to be a day were the ball wouldn't go in the back of the net. In the end it was 1-1 and both teams got their points going for the season.
